Day 11 – Truth

3 Oct 2019

As it is #nationalpoetryday I thought I would share the only one I can recite from memory, it makes little sense, but I have remembered it since childhood so must be a vintage by now!

‘I eat my peas with honey, I’ve done it all my life, it makes the peas taste funny, but it keeps them on the knife.’

The theme this year is Truth and there are some great, much more famous poems than mine listed to get the literacy juices flowing. https://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/

Truth is something that I often refer to in work conversations. What are the facts, where is the evidence? Remove the heat from a situation and emotive perspective and review again with fresh eyes. If there is still fact at the bottom of the sieve, then we can look at finding a solution. Any HR function worth its salt has policies to help guide and maintain fairness when making decisions but one size does not fit all, as people are all unique. Applying various tools, adding a pinch of experience and thinking about the outcome, I find helps solve all sorts of people issues, without drama.

I guess if leave one final thought, just be true to yourself, let your moral compass guide and the rest tends to follow fairly easily.
